His paintings are composed of many different interacting layers. The surface builds up over time allowing for juxtaposed marks and spontaneous improvisation. He uses direct observation and personal experience as tools to aid in the development of the painting, giving him a real connection to the subject. He is interested in our perceptions of reality, how they change over time and how new meaning will continually reveal itself.

Herb Alfonso is a artist/photographer/visionary from Zwolle. He’s primarily known for his different works for the Dutch Hip-hop Formation “De Fakkelbrigade” including capturing their Tour across Holland and Belgium and doing the artwork for a couple of albums. He also produced a number of experimental music videos, including 8 as part of a project (Alledaagse Waanzin) he shot last year for Dutch hip-hop artist Sticks (Opgezwolle). As a video artist he calls himself an expressionist, as he is more focused on capturing emotion in a spontaneous/documentary-style and abstract way, instead of trying to tell a clear story.
His main focus is street photography, as he uses the medium to escape the everyday rat race while being in the middle of it. He claims to feel like an extra-terrestrial when he’s out on the streets trying to study the world he “sees” with one or two of his beloved analogue camera’s, with a digital one on the side and a notebook in his backpack where he writes his notes down strictly based on socialism.
His photographs are all a form of “Social Commentary”. The photos are most often defined by what they say about society, next to what happened at that specific moment. Even if it’s not in your face, it’s still there..…hidden somewhere.
Portraits (conceptual or non-conceptual) of different kind of artists (known and unknown) around the world and trying to find a different perspective on lifeless forms to give them a whole new identity are also part of his focus as a photographer.
He’s currently busy with planning his solo exposition (and book) of his documentation of the Fakkelbrigade Tour, a Photo book about the “Big Brother society” he says we live in, a photo series about agoraphobia, completing his documentary about hip-hop artist Typhoon, finishing writing his first feature film and focusing on his work for a collective of artists called “OrgA”

Inspired by the past, her painting derive primarily from found images which date from approximately the 1900’s until the 1960’s. The origin of these images varies from family photo albums to images that were found on the Internet or in old books and magazines.
In her paintings she tries to capture the bare essentials of the original image, often leading to rather minimalistic results. However figurative, the figures in her paintings and their surroundings often remain largely undefined. Thus she tries to accumulate a certain sense of openness and transparency in her work which is vital for the creation of depth and indefinite meaning.
An important aspect in her work is the use of paint as a material, which makes the structure of the paint an indispensable facet of her paintings. Thick layers of paint and the color of the canvas play an important role in her work.
The goal of her work is not to simply paint a reproduction of an image, but to create a painting that will exceed the reality of the original image.

Lotte Teussink (29) is a painter. In her work she uses mainly oil paint, combined with various other materials such as acrylic, ink and charcoal. She likes to paint in different transparent layers in the background together with 1 thick covering foreground layer, to create a feeling of depth.
Her works are a mix of surrealism with illustrative characteristics, and blunt, direct depictions of people and objects surrounding her. Strong lining, bright colours, and subtle irony are used in all of her works. She views the world as if it were a flat surface; distinct figures or objects are placed in a figurative simplified context to intensify their purpose.
Lotte Teussink lives in Rotterdam and works in her studio in the Spaanse Polder in Rotterdam. She has had an art education in the United Kingdom (1999-2000) and proceeded in Rotterdam at the Willem de Kooning Academy. Now she is regularly working abroad as an artist-in-residence to be inspired by different surroundings such as Finland and Switzerland.

Horen: Mixed media on canvas, 120x100cm, €950,-
A multimedia artist and designer based in Delft, The Netherlands. He studied Communication and Multimedia Design at Willem de Kooning Academie, Rotterdam; which is now of the HRO. He started the Motion Graphics minor at the WdKA, but was demotivated by the chaos at the school and the lack of room for real development.
In real life he is a freelance webdesigner and webdeveloper, a VJ and a multimedia artist.
Interestingly enough Dave avoids watching regular TV and sleeping. He feels advertising and mindless sitcoms are a product of a society that force-feeds us brain numbing shows, which only serve to reduce our brain activity – they are a respite from the bustle of day to day things. He prefers to find his inspiration in books, music and heated discussions. He is cross inspired by themes or feelings in his paintings and multimedia compositions.
